The Sea Inside

Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar’s The Sea Inside tells the true story of Ramon Sampedro (Javier Bardem), a quadriplegic who fought a 30-year battle for the right to end his own life. The film explores Ramon’s relationship with two women: Julia (Belen Rueda), a lawyer who fights for his cause, and Rosa (Lola Duenas), who tries to convince him that his life is worth living. The film took Best Foreign Language Film honors at the 2004 Academy Awards. (PG-13)

Son of the Mask

Jamie Kennedy reprises Jim Carrey’s role in 1994’s box office hit The Mask with Son of the Mask, in which he plays Tim Avery, an aspiring cartoonist who finds himself in a sticky situation when his newborn baby stumbles upon the mask of Loki. The mask allows whoever wears it to morph into a rubber-faced alter ego, but Loki (Alan Cumming) isn’t happy about losing his prize possession. Directed by Lawrence Guterman. (PG)

Kinsey

Laura Linney was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Kinsey, a look at the life of Alfred Kinsey (played by Liam Neeson), whose 1948 publication “Sexual Behavior in the Human Male” was one of the first recorded scientific studies on sexual behavior. The film follows Kinsey as he makes his impact on American culture and the resulting aftermath. Written and directed by Bill Condon. (R)
